My work currently responds to 18th-early 20th century Arctic and Antarctic exploration narratives. These northern and southern landscapes exist as fact and memoir, fiction and reverie. Scouring archives and other accounts fuses my historical imagination with the emotional weight of chronicled artifacts and individuals buried then uncovered. This collaboration, between the sources and their subsequent musings of the imagination, aims to contemplate and question both as equal partners.

Reflecting on the experiences of both the insider dwelling within and the outsider voyagin forth, the work is situated as memoryscapes. The voice of the soliloquy, the individual lament, guides the meaning. It is more about a voice alone than a collective embrace: The fragility of a human psyche dealing with the harsh realities of the unbearable coldness, of loves lost, and moments of death and awakenings.
